Taking risks are a part of life. Play it safe and you’ll never know what awaits you around the corner. Cydia might be thrash metal but they have the guts to not play it safe and go for the note by note routine. That makes “Evil Sun” so much more interesting. That I hear second wave thrash metal references as well as some patented Pantera metal only adds to the concoction. There is a vitality to Cydia that I like. And although not original in any sense the combined influences makes this interesting. I like that I can hear tons of different influences and that they combined make for a new sound. I also like that Cydia use their native tongue to sing in. It adds to the overall impression and gives the music a different edge.

(OB)

Cydia  are  a  band  from Russia  that  mixes  death  metal  with  metalcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2011  album  "Evil  Sun"  which  was  released  by  Metal Scrap Records.
Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  thrown  in  at  times,  while  the  synths  which  are  only  used  as  a  sound  effect  bring  an  atmospheric  sound  to  the  music,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars.
Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  death  metal,  thrash  and  metal  core  together  with  some  melodies  being  thrown  into  the  music  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars which  are  only  utilize  briefly  they  use  finger  picking  to  enhance  the  darkness  of  the  music.
Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  deep  death  metal  and  metalcore  growls  and  screams  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  rap/groove  metal  type  vocals, while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Russia  with  themes  that  cover  dark,, evil  and  hateful  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful  and  heavy  sound  to  it.
In  my  opinion  while  this  is  not  my  favorite  style,  I  still  feel  that  Cydia  stands  out  from  the  rest  of this  genre  and  creates  interesting  music  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  death/groove  metal/metalcore,  you  should  check  out  this  band. RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dance  of  The Death"  "Evil  Sun"  "Stalker"  and  "Alive  Too  Much". RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Sounding like a lethal pill of some description, this Russian outfit’s output could be as dangerous if overdosed on to gratuitous volumes.
Seemingly advertised as groove death, the style is pretty compliant and tedium -free with it, despite the vocals being penned in the act’s homeland lingo. Some pretty NWOBHM -nurtured chugging gets a place in each number with fantastic bounce and tempo variations. Solo work is handled as amiably as expected by Oleg Zoob, Pantera influences simply left to run amok on most tracks.
Adding sneaky symphonic metal deviations into this energetic eleven -track journey should not offend the elitist when all the hallmarks have their pegs set firmly enough in the holes already. Stas Nobody applies a sturdy extreme metal throat, translatable and a couple of brief Korn moments accommodate it with little need for improvisation on what are also hugely promising live numbers.
Somewhat groovy stuff indeed.

Not an easy to find on the net band, cydia comes from Russia and was formed in 2007. At the end of the same year they say they have released their "unofficial debut album", but how's that an unofficial album if it's released by the band? I don't get it. Anyway, in 2011 they have signed with Metal Scrap Records and here we have their official (?) debut full-length. 11 tracks of Modern, Groove infused Metal with lots of Nu-Metal influences so you guessed it right, this is not exactly my cup of coffee, but what I like about them is the fact they added some guitar riffs that come from the Death Metal scene, making this album a bit more complex and also a bit more Extreme Metal oriented. Also the vocalist is a very good one, he doesn his best to bring forth as much aggression as possible. The low tuned rhythm quitar and bass make this release quite brutal even if it comes from this genre. I was not bothered at all but this CD, so if you're into Modern Metal you might like it a lot I assume. Beware, the lyrics are all in Russian language.

Czworka naszych sasiadow zza wschodniej miedzy zaserwowala nam krazek melodyjnego pelen Death Metalu z pewnymi dziwnymi inklinacjami pochodzacymi ni to z Industrial, ni to z klimatow bardziej psychodelicznych.
