CRYOGENIC IMPLOSION (for Aquelarre Magazine #13)

Answered Kadaamp (Cryogenic Implosion)

1.Hey guys, thanks for taking the time out to answer a few questions for Aquelarre Magazine. Let's start with how you are doing these days?Hi, now we’re get ready to play a small concert to promote our new album and we are working over new material.
2.How would you describe the UKRAINIAN METAL SCENE?
Ukrainian metal scene is relatively young on the world stage, but we have several famous bands who are well – known outside Ukraine: NOCTURNAL MORTUM, KHORS, HELL:ON, SEMARGL, BALFOR … and I hope our band will be famous too, ha-ha.

3.When did the band formed and the names of the members.
We started in winter 2007 in Chernivtsy, Ukraine and the basic band members were Kadaamp – guitars/vocals; Lem8r – bass; Presfer – drums. But after we record the album some changes happened within a band’s line-up, we said good-bye to Lem8r and the new members came to us - Basher (guitar), Heretic (bass). And for the moment the members of CRYOGENIC IMPLOSION are:
Kadaamp – guitar/vocals;
Basher – guitar;
Heretic – bass;
Presfer – drums.

4.How would you describe your style? Who have been your role models? Which bands are on your list of favorites? If I were to look through your CD collection, what would I find?
Oh, you know we take inspiration in different sources and we try not to stick to one style though we are limited by metal style. Every member of the band has his favorites. But in general we all prefer:  DEATH, SLAYER, CARCASS, ENTOMBED, CANNIBAL CORPSE, MORBID ANGEL, DARK FUNERAL, IMMORTAL, EMPEROR, OBITUARY, GORGUTS, DISSECTION and others you know, all the metal gods. One can find many different styles in our music, but the leading is DEATH METAL. There is a lot of different music in my CD collection, but I prefer old school music and notice few interesting young bands as: NILE, OBSCURA and ARCHSPIRE.

5.Interesting name for a band, why you had chosen that name?
I thank you for your appreciations. Well, Implosion means an inner explosion, a quick destruction under the influence of inner factors; theoretically something like this may cause the appearance of the collapsar. Well it is a powerful and quite downbeat thing, which is not explored, just like our music. This name was suggested by my friend and I told to myself: “oh, it’s just the thing that we need.” The name has a complete character and fits to our music.

6.How would you describe your band to someone who's never heard your music before?
Hmm… let me think… Probably in this way: “technical, like American death metal in Ukrainian manner, with crazy rhythm section, dark melodies, powerful riffs and deep growl.” I think it would be enough for the first listening our album.
Truly saying I don’t like giving definitions to our music; let the critics and journalists do that. We‘d better invent interesting music and give a possibility for journalists to write a review for our future albums.

7.How do you write your music? Is there a set guideline or do you write what you feel as you go along. How do you get the inspiration for your writing?
First of all the new interesting riffs appear in my head and then the foundation of a song creates. Sometimes it takes a few hours, and sometimes it takes a few months. There are times when you cannot compose something and than you take a guitar and the new song is ready for half an hour. Anyway, the song is ready when all members of the band bring in it something personal. We discuss all new songs and as a result we have a great amazing track :)

8.Any plans to go on tour? If so, where and when and with whom?
We have no plans, but we have a desire. We don’t receive any propositions about a tour, but sometimes we get propositions about concerts. Unfortunately our country is not a member of European Union, that’s why to have a concert in other countries is very problematic, but possible. That’s exactly why we are ready to hear any suggestions about tours:).

9.Besides Metal, what other types of music do you listen to?
Except metal I listen to a different music. For example: “psy trance”, “dub”, “dark wave”, “noise”, and  jazz, blues, folk music. But it happens only occasional, because the metal music suits me fine.

10.Outside of playing Metal, what kinds of things do you enjoy doing?
We can not earn money only play music, every member of Cryogenic Implosion has his job, that’s why we have no a lot of free time, but if we have it we attend metal concerts, drink beer and have fun. Sometimes I like to travel to the mountains or just spend free time with my family.

11.Do you feel that Death and Black Metal bands have it more difficult to gain recognition compared to those who play other types of metal?
Death metal and Black metal have always been underground styles and these kinds of music have its fans. Besides, these styles are in good progress. But, if we turn attention to a commercial success, the leaders are bands with prefix “core” & “Nu”.

12.Do you know about the southamerican metal scene and what bands do you know ?
Sepultura, Krisiun, Disgorge, Brujeria are the most famous as for my opinion. Krisiun has a concert in Ukraine few years ago.

13.What in your opinion separates a good metal band from a bad one?
Everything is very simple: if the music stick in memory it is good and if the music played without a feelings and emotions it is noticed. Every metal band has its great and indifferent albums, it is normal, but very important to keep own personality (but nowadays it is very difficult to do).

14.What are your plans for the future?
First of all to play some concerts to promote our new album and record our new material which, I hope would have a great success with metalheads and our fans.

15.Any last words to the readers of Aquelarre?
To metalheads: go to the concerts, support metal and don’t fuck young bands, because it is very difficult to be original at once.
To bands: be honest with yourself, believe in yourself, cultivate one‘s abilities, support other bands and everything will be ok!
Special Thanks to your magazine for the questions and for what you are doing – stay metal!
