Biography

Pedophile Priests – band of Polish musicians based in Ireland. It was formed in Dublin, in 2014, by guitarist Piotr “Niemiec” Niemczewski.
Piotr’s Metal approach to music writing and his guitar technique were perfected throughout the years in Death Metal bands such as Mortis Dei, Puki Mahlu or Lady Maggot.

Works on first album was completed with help and input of session drummer Łukasz Krzesiweicz (Esqarial, Sammath Naur, Gnida, Crionics…). In this line up, in spring 2015, Pedophile Priests have finished recording of their debut album entitled ”Dark Transgression Of The Soul”.

In spring 2015, former musician of Thy Worshiper, Krystian “Kruszon” Mistarz, joined the band as a permanent drummer.

In August 2015, band signed record deal with Metal Scrap Records.
Debut full-lengtht album “Dark Transgression Of The Soul” was released at December same year.

Since January 2016, Pedophile Priest started play regular gigs.
In October 2016, band supported Polish Metal legend KAT on part of their Irish and UK tour.

2017/2018 band started composing and recording new material and also supported another Polish Metal legend Quo Vadis on their Irish tour.

In November 2019, Pedophile Priests’ second full-length album, “Cancer”, was released by Metal Scrap Records.

Rock Hard #38

ROK SA ROKOM MINUL A VEĽA VODY PRETIEKLO V ÍRSKYCH RIEKACH. A ČO NOVÉHO SA UDIALO U POĽSKEJ DEATH METALOVEJ FORMÁCIE PEDOPHILE PRIEST SÍDLIACEJ V ÍRSKOM DUBLINE? NA ICH AKTIVITY, KONCERTNÚ ČINNOSŤ A NA PRÍPRAVY NOVÉHO ALBUMU SOM SA SPÝTAL TOHO NAJPOVOLANEJŠIEHO, GITARISTU, SPEVÁKA A ZAKLADATEĽA KAPELY PIOTRA NIEMCZEWSKEHO.

Interview was prepared by KREMATOR (for Rock Hard #38)

After a year you hear again from Rock Hard SK. Around a year ago my colleague Erik had the pleasure to interview you and as you’ve been quiet since, it’s my turn to poke you (haha). Fun aside (just for a moment), I hope you have bunch of news you’d like to share with us.
It is always a pleasure to talk to you guys and yes we have some news we can talk about 😉

I always considered myself to be your neighbour from the south but then I realized that you’re already miles aways. Do you still stay in Ireland? How’s life there?
Life is good here thanks. We still have strong connection with Poland and visiting many times during a year. I can speak only for myself now but I definitely feel Polish inside and it does not mean that I am not fully assimilated here because I am.
Bad side of this situation is that you never can feel like you are 100% in “your place” even if people try don’t make you feel it.
Also Irish metal scene see us as Polish band based in Ireland so we can not count on that much support like 100% Irish bands.

One thing is still on my mind. Last time you mentioned that you had met Krystian Mazur in some pub and then you asked him to join your rehearsal. Based on his name I assume he’s from Poland too (or at least he has Polish ancestors). Am I correct?
Yep, he is Polish in deed and at the moment all band members are Polish. Krystian Mazur left the band around January 2016 to join Thy Worshiper but we have polish replacement for him already. Pedophile Priests have only Polish members at the moment but this is just kind of coincident as we were interviewed other nationality guys for bass players as well.
Things just worked out for some reasons in this way that we are 100% Polish Irish band;)

Based on the promo pictures I saw it looks you’re just a duo. Has anything changed about that lately?
We are still kind of duo and promotional pic is from duo period as well.
Our current bass player Greg Gregorski is under probation now so after while we will see and he may stay with us for good.

How was 2016 for the band regarding the debut album, shows, festivals?
It was ok like for actually first year of band life activity.
We played Irish shows mostly till now but we also had some performances in he UK.
Good thing which happened to us was that we had great opportunity and pleasure to support Polish thrash/black metal legend – Kat on part of their UK and Irish tour.
We grew up on their music, so it was great fun for us and honor.
Reviews of the album are mostly very good so it motivates us further to work on new material.

What plans do you have for 2017?
To record a single and release it as a video clip.
Also we are looking around to play some European tour and try to jump on on some summer festivals. That things are not so easy to set up if you are not a professional band and have your home responsibility but we gonna try work it out.

What about a new album? How many songs are ready? In what phase is the work on the new album? Can you tell us more about it?
Well the new album is actually ready in strictly compositional meaning. I have some 9 tracks ready on the level of demo with drums machine versions and now we start to learn how to play them.
Lyrically is gonna be 100% about human life aspect absolute opposite to transcendental “Dark Transgression of the Soul”
We gonna start to record it during 2017 but it will be out not earlier that 2018 as things need time and money.

I hope you won’t forget about your mother tongue and it will become a tradition to have at least one song in Polish on an album (as VADER or BEHEMOTH do).
Yep, there is one song in Polish already and it may be more.
For me personally is kind of tradition as well as playing in the past in bands like Mortis Dei or Puki ‘Mahlu we always had some songs with Polish lyrics since early 90ties so long before it become kind of trend.

Polish are into traditions and are huge patriots. Looking at the common and most famous Polish bands I recognize two different threads (or schools if you will). The first one is typical death metal with thrash metal elements and the second one is death metal with black metal elements. But based on your music I’d never say you have Polish roots. What do you think about it?
Basically all you saying is right. More common are I think death/thrash bands and it was always like that. Maybe because hybrid of thrash and death is very natural, nice and easy to connect in interesting monolith and maybe because death and thrash was the most popular genre years back in Poland I risk to say and we should add in this place bands like Armagedon, Dragon,Betrayer,Ghost, Hazael… and many more.
And yes on the other side we had black/death bands maybe less common but still – Christ Agony for an example and later Behemoth as well.
If you saying that you would not say that we represent typical Polish death metal sound I will take it as a complement at this point because like for sure we can say that label of Polish Death Metal genre is synonym of quality but for me as a musician label of own style is more desirable.
From strictly technical point of view we drop Hertz Studio as a typical Polish band recording facility and we are using 7string guitars only instead classical 6string with drop tune.

How often do you rehearse all together? Does individual rehearsing prevail?
Well we trying play at list two rehearsal per week plus of course we practising individually at home.
Sometimes we can play even less often but later on if necessary and we have some show to play or something we can jump even on 5 rehearsal per week so thats depends.

How do you approach composing? What is the role of each and every band member in the composing process? Who writes music, lyrics and who has the power of veto?
I am composing full songs at home and record it as a demo song with drums programmed and finished vocals and lyrics. Then I am sending song to my band mates and give them time to listen into it. Later on we start performing each track on rehearsals and providing changes if necessary. If some of us have different and better idea for arrange of particular riff we will change it but most likely song finish up in the same shape as demo as the best solutions for arrange.
We are on the same vibe so there is no need of any veto.

Catholic community bothers you and I’m totally with you. Usually all the bands doing such music say they hate all kinds of religion but they write about Christianity only. I think that Islam is far more dangerous at the moment. It is far more radical, violent, it degrades women, it’s hard for European to understand concept of justice and punishments, but it looks the bands are afraid to pick on Allah. Isn’t it hypocritical in some way? The chances of some Christian blowing himself up at your show are pretty low. Or is it now about time to deal with Islam in music?
Well I can agree basically with everything you say.
You should not be to much worry about that as Slovakia sort it out in fantastic way and you should be proud of it. If you asking metal bands about that they will answer you that they singing about own cultures reality as a reality of Christian culture they live in and thats is a point but yes everything is changing now and Islam seems to be a bigger treat.
Like my Muslim friend use to say when I am asking him why are you laughing at Jesus in memes and not at Mahomet he use to answer – Peter those guys have no sense of humour;) So yes at this point we have to agree that chance of Christian bomber on gig is pretty low opposite to Muslim one.
On ours debut album “Dark Transgression of the Soul” there is a song titled “Crescent Guided Tributary” and this song dealing with Islam issue.
Also on the new album there will be lyrics dealing with Catholic and Islamic pedophile.

I asked the previous question partly because of the recent events in Berlin. What does ordinary Irish person says about it? Do you feel to be in a safe place when you’re miles away from the continent? The country was quite safe even during WW II and even powerful Luftwaffe didn’t endanger it.
Ireland seems to be very safe place in the meaning of Islamic Terrorism at list at the moment. Muslim community here is not seem to be very offensive or aggressive at the moment and it does not look that bad like for an example in the UK so ordinary Irish Citizen do not worry to much take it easy and focus on drinking and easy going Irish attitude;)

Enough about politics and negative stuff. Do you have something positive on mind to wrap this up?
Just focus on small positive aspect of your life and draw happiness from them.
We won’t change word and people so just live our life on own way and take most from it!

ATMOSFEAR #17

Neophyte (Atmosfear)

Я закончил запись дебютного альбома ”Dark Transgression of the Soul” и искал лейбл для издания.

Metal Scrap Records?

PEDOPHILE PRIESTS

Rock Hard Magazine #32

Erik Nádudvari (Rock Hard Magazine #32)

PEDOPHILE PRIESTS is quite daring name for a band, especially in this half-witted, so called democracy in the EU. Are you fed up with pedophiles in the Catholic Church? Have you had some troubles for the band name? Ireland is quite religious and traditional, if I am not wrong.
For me personaly is just a name which we using to describe sexual abuse of childrens by a men in a cassock – we call them then pedophile priests. If we google it we can find out a number of press releases reporting cases like this and describing the people who commit these terrible crime as pedophile priests. Some people get offended by band name but in the same moment they are not offended by for an example „ROTTING CHRIST“ etc. I get offended by this what those people do and that they still trying to hide it. Is there more disgusting crime that this one against children especially commited by the priests of the god? No! Not for me anyway so the whole disgust and outrage goes to them and not to this as we call them. And we call them as we called our band – PEDOPHILE PRIESTS. Ireland is very tolerant country also harmed strongly by pedophiles in church. Much more troubles we would get in Poland for example where church is highly influential in the political life.

Piotr, I have met your name in LADY MAGGOT and PUKI ´MAHLU as well. How do you manage all these bands, including PEDOPHILE PRIESTS? Yes, I wanted to ask you what does mean the name PUKI ´MAHLU?
Only PEDOPHILE PRIESTS is active band at the moment. It would not be possible to manage three groups and be 100% engage

Things like that may work when you are very young and mundane matters like job do not bother you. Otherwise there is no way to make it work.
PUKI ´MAHLU is taken from Malay, and exactly from James Clavell’s “King Rat”. It is quite hard to translate but it means something like shamed sexuality; Malay obscenity.

Do you have your permanent address in Ireland or you travel a lot between Ireland and Poland? Are you in contact with the guys from MORTIS DEI?
Traveling beetwenn countries did not work in longer term. I live in Ireland last eight years. Yes, I am in contact with guys, they are my mates. I spend with them 10 years in the band so we have a lot of good memories. We are still good friends.

Well, let´s talk about the new album. When an idea of PEDOPHILE PRIESTS came into life and how did you find Krystian Mazur (bass) and Krystian Mistarz (drums)?
In last couple years I was involded in studio projects only. This made me yearning for plaing rehearsal and gigs. Also I had a lot of new material ready so I decided bring Pedophile Priests to life. I knew Krystian Mistarz as he was involved in Lady Maggot for a moment. We met Krystian Mazur in the pub as he is buddy of our friend. We invated him for rehearsals and he joined the band later on.

Was Metal Scrap Records the best option for you? How about other labels in Ireland or the UK, even in Poland?
Metal Scrap as the first opened the doors for us. We got one offer from the UK label but it was after we signed the deal with Metal Scrap. Polish labels curently are more interested in signing bands which I use to call “New way of polish black metal” – groups like „MGŁA“ I mean. They looking mostly for bands with similar style which can follow they sawn path of sucess. Metal Scrap is doing good promotion and this is the most important for band which is just trying to establish own position – like our one.

Where was the new album recorded and how the works were going in studio?
Drums were recorded in Invent Sound Studio in Bydgoszcz Poland by Szymon Grodzki. Guitars, bass and vocals in my home studio. Album is extremly fast so it cost a lot of sweat but work were done smoothly in a good atmosphere. We were going into the studio with a vision of dirty retro sound what influenced the final result which is much different that most of death metal productions this days what makes that some people will like it and others don’t.

It is important for musicians to keep pace with modern technologies. Except playing guitars you also do drum programming. So, what guitars do you play, perhaps what else do you keep on your shoulders including programming in studio?
My main guitar is Ibanez Universe uv777. During the recordings I used my acustic Cort guitar as well. I own also two custom Ran guitars – King V, and Thunder They are early Ran models from the nineties but I using Universe only at the moment. I looking after VST programming as well. All the keys, pianos, samples, intros etc.

What is your way of writing new material?
Last couple years I am using drums programming when I working on new tracks. It makes things much more easy. You can check all yours guitar ideas with different drums beats and create the skeleton of the song. Then I am finding right places for solos and guitar melodic lines. Finally I am working on lyric and vocal lines. Later on we work on details witch the drummer in rehearsal room.

Two songs, “Czarne Xięstwo” and “Pogański” are written in mother language which I always welcome. Why this decision has been made?
I was looking for something extraordinary for “Czarne Xięstwo” and then I found this sick poem of polish avangarde poet Tadeusz Miciński. I could not write anything more dark and morbid, this lyric is seriuosly fucked up. I placed it straight ahead on the track and it suit perfectly. “Pogański” got the tittle first because of pagan, ethnic sound and atmosphere of the song. I knew that it has to say about our Slavic, pagan roots so I just could not write this in english so it became polish lyric.

“Dark Transgression of the Soul” is quite serious theme with its philosophical background. Are you interested in such things as human existence, the Universe, genesis, etc?
Sometimes I think that life is too short to daily reflect on certain things and we should just focus on the pleasures of the present day but often it is difficult to restrain from certain considerations. What lies behind the universe? Does it directly affect and transgressing our lives or we are shapers of own destiny? Does our DNA may have designed the ancient astronauts who hide behind this constantly observing us eye? So little we know about the universe around us. About ancient times and real genesis as for many of us god is not the answer. That things are still shrouded in an aura of mystery and this is what the tittle symbolizes.

I have to touch the cover artwork. The front image is impressive and well worked out. The seeing eye in the middle looks like a hole into the other universe. Was it your idea of the cover? Who realized this idea into the final product?
Front cover must integrate elements of all lyrics. I felt it as a dark cosmic aura and something around us, affect and transforming us. For someone it will be god or ancient astronauts for someone else something completely different. Cover was created by Piotr Szafraniec which I collaborated before on Lady Maggot and Puki ´Mahlu CD layouts.

Are you faithful to death metal only or, other genres are welcomed in your world of music too? What bands you like to listen?
I am listening to metal mostly as heavy music is love of my life.Of course I can place in my player music of different genres but there is no many thigs I really enjoy. I like some stuff of Portishead, somethimes some movies soundtracks and jazz, but I don’t really have favorites artist outside metal. Most of the time I like single songs only or just fragments of albums. Some time ago I tried to force myself to listening more of no metal music but I did’t like it so I stoped to do this.

Will you support the new album on the tour? How about summer festivals or local shows of this year? Is there a chance to see PEDOPHILE PRIESTS in Slovakia or Czech Republic?
Currently we start to work on this. Some local gigs at first and then maybe UK tour. We playing also in irish elimination for Bloodstock so there is some chance that we will apper over there. Hopefully next step will bring us to Slovakia or Czech Republic, and maybe Poland and Germany either but we do not have any specifics yet.

At the end, I´d like to express my big thanks for your time and patience with answering the questions. Keep well and safe and all the best in 2016.
Thank you very much it was a pleasure and a happy new year everyone!

Atmosfear #24

I am glad to welcome again the Polish Irish guys from PEDOPHILE PRIESTS at our ATMOSFEAR. If you remember, we talked after the release of your debut album. What has changed over the years in the band?
We are a few years older and we have not become a rock star yet;) But seriously we spent extraordinary time playing, composing, spending time with family and over our other hobbies.

Now you have two albums and they are completely different. Describe each album please.
Yes they are different. The first record was supposed to be ultra fast and brutal, while the second one was more natural and spontaneous. For the debut, first a music was created and then lyrics, in the case of a new album it was written simultaneously. At the debut almost all lyrics (except two) are embedded in cosmic space or in the world of imagination and the new album is 100% involved in matters here on earth. As a result, the cover art is literally in the ground (cemetery) and having these two directed elements, we made sure that the sound of the album was also organic, natural and slightly old school. We wanted to let people hear that the people are playing on this record not the robots or machines, which is often a side effect of overdosage of computer editing nowadays so any delicate imperfections and everything that creates a life and real natural sound is heard over here on this new record.

You have again secured the support of Metal Scrap Records. I understand that you liked their work for your debut album?
Yes we did. They did everything they undertook in matters of promotion, so there were no contraindications to resume cooperation with them.

The new album comes not only on CDs. There will also be cassettes and even box-set. With cassettes everything is clear, but tell me more about boxing. What will be included in it?
It will be a CD, cassette, patch, badge, and magnet so really nice ting to have it on shelf.

You used to play death metal. But now I’m not so sure. Your comments.
Yes that good point but I still think this is death metal. Component music is ominous from many more coexisting under genres of metal, but the dominating force is still death metal, whether in riffs, or in vocals and drum arrangements. The new album is simply more complex in structure. It comes naturally to us, but I don’t see any reason to push it into pure classic death metal. Let’s leave it to old bands, they are the best in it. Through this I try to bring my own element of originality to music more or less subconsciously. No one needs another worse copy of the established bands. Let’s call it searching for our own style and identity for the band and maybe we just found it on this record.

How strikingly the covers of your albums differ. From space we went down to earth, to the cemetery. Who is the author of the new artwork and is there a point in the cover or is it just an interesting picture?
Yes exactly you just nail it. We went down to the earth. Nothing is accidental here. The cover should reflect the content of the album in fullness. It symbolizes the two types of cancer that humanity faces. Cancer as a disease of the body, but also as moral rot. The additional cover and the title for me has also personal dimension, as in recent years, several of my good friends have been taken away by cancer. The whole graphics of the album, including the cover is based on photos taken by me in the old cemeteries. The whole inlay visual art was put together and spiced up by the graphic designer responsible for the layout – Piotr Mateja.

At the moment, which of your bands are active besides PEDOPHILE PRIESTS?
Pedophile Priests only.

Has your attitude to Ireland, a country of expensive alcohol and constant rains, changed?
Not at all. You just have to get used to certain things. But even if you get used to some things, like the rain mentioned above, you find that some things just can’t get used to. This can also be confirmed by people who were born in Ireland, who claim that they have enough weather and that you can not get used to it and they emigrate because of the weather. Alcohol is probably not so expensive, since every evening you watch a herd of people on the street, people obviously drunk as fuck.

November 8 will start selling your new album. How do you plan to celebrate this event and what are your future plans for PEDOPHILE PRIESTS?
We gonna sit down and have a bottle of Irish whiskey hehe. We also planing to play two small local concerts here in Dublin to launch it and then we want to look for some tour and just go for it.

The True Bringer Of Death Zine

Interview was prepared by OccultBlackMetal (The True Bringer Of Death Zine)

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
I formed Pedophile Priests band in 2014. I had a lot of new material ready so I could focus straight ahead on the recordings. I got help from drummer – Lukasz „Lucass“ Krzesiewicz whose ultra fast style of playing was a element which I needed for those crazy tracks. After recordings in April 2015 former musician of Thy Worshiper and Pineal Gland – Krystian „Kruszon” Mistarz joined the band as a permanent drummer. In August 2015 we signed record deal with Metal Scrap Records. Later on around November 2015 bassist Krystian Mazur joined the band and in this line up we played already a couple of gigs. Currently we looking for new bass player, playing local gigs and writting brand new material.

2.In November you had released your first album, how wold you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
Old school and modern playing clipped by the same atmosphere. Melody and aggression. Mixture of Death and Thrash metal bringing what we like the most in genres. Monolitic but every song has own character. We were going into the studio with a vision of dirty retro sound what influenced the final result which is much different that most of death metal productions this days what makes that some people will like it and others don’t.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
A lyricly album is a journey through dark corners of the human mind pervading the universe. I fell it as a dark cosmic aura and something around us, affect and transforming us. For someone it will be god or ancient astronauts for someone else something completely different. „Peresentiment of Evil“ for an example is saying about evil side of ourselfs which somethimes comes up and pushing good side away. For “Czarne Xięstwo” I was looking for something extraordinary and then I found this sick poem of polish avangarde poet Tadeusz Miciński. I could not write anything more dark and morbid, this lyric is seriuosly fucked up. I placed it straight ahead on the track and it suit perfectly. “Pogański” for an example got the tittle first because of pagan, ethnic sound and atmosphere of the song. I knew that it has to say about our Slavic, pagan roots so I just could not write this in english so it became polish lyric. “Crescent Guided Tributory” is about islamic terrorists…

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name ‘Pedophile Priests’?
Name “Pedophile Priests” is lack of this what we use to call “policital correctness ” is us. We have XXI century and this is still kind of taboo but not for us. They are pedophiles between priests and those of them which are hiding in a cassock – we call pedophile priests. This what they do is evil and fact that they are the priests makes it even more – this make it pure evil and if something is pure evil then it is great name for metal band;) Some people get offended by band name but I don’t care because I get offended by this what those people do and that they still trying to hide it. Is there more disgusting crime that this one against children especially commited by the priests of the god? This pissing me off so this is why we call our band Pedophile Priests.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also howwould you scribe your stage performance?
There was no gig yet when we were 100% happy because how we played but slowly we are getting there;) I am very demanding for ourselfs but I think thats good. I would describe it as classic metal show with a lot of madness and headbanging. Mixture of fast very fast and some slower songs. And for the dessert cover of old metal gods.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Currently we start to work on this. Some local gigs at first and then maybe UK tour. We playing also in irish elimination for Bloodstock so there is some chance that we will apper over there. Hopefully next step will bring us to Slovakia or Czech Republic, and maybe Poland and Germany either but we do not have any specifics yet.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?
We are receiving good and very good reviews mostly. Two of those were even very enthusiastically. Of course there was some negative one aswell.Generally feedback by fans of death metal is good whats make me delighted as music we play and way how “Dark Transgression of the Soul” sound like is a little bit different then this how death metal bands play and sound this days.

8.Are any of the band members also involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?
No, not at the moment. Previously Krystian Mistarz was involved in Thy Worshiper and Pineal Gland and I use to play for Mortis Dei, Puki Mahlu and Lady Maggot but currently we are focus on Pedophile Priests and we working on the new material.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Bit slower (max. 190 BPM instead 200 BPM;), with more air in and more transparent . Flow and groove.Variety of vocals starting from growls through dirty and clean singing. Some catchy parts but in the good meaning of word. Lyrically more issues of everyday life insted of transcendental.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I am listening to metal mostly as heavy music is love of my life. Of course I can place in my player music of different genres but there is no many thigs I really enjoy. I like some stuff of Portishead, somethimes some movies soundtracks and jazz, but I don’t really have favorites artist outside metal. Most of the time I like single songs only or just fragments of albums. Some time ago I tried to force myself to listening more of not metal music but I did’t like it so I stoped to do this.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
I love motorcycles and own few of them. Really like work on them, customizing etc. Currently working on Honda VT600 Shadow bobber/choper project and of course ride them across the Europe.
Also I am into craft beers but music is the most importent in my life so I collecting cd’s and appearing on most local gigs.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Support the underground because is the most precious place for metal.
Also thank You for interest in Pedophile Priests and Your support.
And finally – stay brutal and fuck the political correctness because remember that Death Metal means NO COMPROMISES!

Battle Helm

If you want to upset people you just need to mention the word PEDOPHILE and the react in anger. Add to it PRIESTS and you get a whole different reaction. But as a band name the two words work wonder. Anders Ekdahl ©2016

As you might not be that known to most people a short introduction might be in order.
Band was formed in 2014. At first I finished the recordings of the debut album entitled ”Dark Transgression of the Soul” and then I was looking for label to release this stuff. For recordings I got help from drummer – Lukasz „Lucass“ Krzesiewicz – mad fast player. This insane speed that is his input. But he was session drummer only. In April 2015 former musician of Thy Worshiper and Pineal Gland – Krystian „Kruszon” Mistarz joined the band as a permanent drummer. In August 2015 band signed record deal with Metal Scrap Records. Then around November 2015 bassist Krystian Mazur joined the band. Metal Scrap Records released debut album entitled “Dark Transgression of the Soul” worldwide at 7th of December 2015.

How does your latest recording compare to the previous ones?
This is our first album so we can compare it only with the different projects we had in the past. For sure this is the fastest and sickest thing which each of us ever made. This album is furious and all is about speed mostly

Was it hard for you to come up with a sound you all could agree on?
No, not really. Drums production process and sound on recording level was worked out between drummer Lukasz Krzesiewicz, sound enginer Szymon Grodzki and me. Later on in post-production process the final sound shape was created by me mostly.

How important are the lyrics to you? What kind of topics do you deal with?
Kind of very important like. Lyrics may give song second bottom and boost musical feeling. All you have to do is just stick right lyrics in particular song. It need to have the same atmosphere and coexist on the same level.

How important is the cover art work for you? How much do you decide in choosing art work?
Cover art is a third element which links music material, lyrics and atmosphere. Also very important. I chose th cover art from works of graphic desinger Piotr Szafraniec with I collaborated before on Lady Maggot and Puki ´Mahlu CD layouts. Front cover must integrate elements of all lyrics. I felt it as a dark cosmic aura and something around us, affect and transforming us. For someone it will be god or ancient astronauts for someone else something completely different.

Where outside of your country have you had success?
Pedophile Priests is a band which just establishing own position so for now our succes is that we written good music material, that we recorded and release it by label. For succes in the right meaning of this word we have to work a little bit longer before we would be able call it in this way.

Is it harder today to get noticed both nationally and internationally than it was 10 or 20 years ago? Is the competition tougher today?
Man there is no any compare. This days everything is up side down. Years back band need to have a little bit of determination a little bit of luck. This days great record and determination is not enough. Of course there is a lot more of competition because we have too many bands down there but mostly all this is about fact that people stop buying music. Label can not do any money now on the releases of 500, 1500, 2000 copies so they won’t invest any money in bands. More, very often they start charge the young bands for release. Bands need to pay ridiculous money for touring with big bands to get slots on festivals etc. Thats just wrong but this is reality. This days you have to pump a lot of money into the band to get noticed.

What is your local scene like? What status does your band have in the national scene?
There is a couple of good bands, maybe metal scene here is not that strong like in other part of the Europe but still not bad. Like I mentioned before we are just about to build up our position but people start recognizing our band name and this is that important first step on band long way.

What is the general population’s opinion on playing music? Is being a musician a respectable choice?
Lets thing about it as a hobby. Not many people can live from music today so it is hard to talk about it as a respectable choice.

What does the future hold for you?
That we can not know, hopefuly we we grow as a band and as the people.

Hintf: Thank you for answering this interview! What can you tell us about the history of the band?

Hey, here is Piotr PP vox/Guit. Pedophile Priests was formed in Dublin, Ireland in 2014. PP was not my first music project. I started it as a need of heart after I finnished activity in my previous bands I played in throughout the years such as Mortis Dei, Puki ‘Mahlu or Lady Maggot. In August 2015 band signed record deal with Metal Scrap Records and in the same year debut LP “Dark Transgression of the Soul” was realased. Since then we had great opportunity to support polish metal legens such KAT or Quo Vadis on part of their Irish and UK tour. Our second album entitled ” Cancer ”, which was released by Metal Scrap Records wordwide in 2019. Album was promoted by two official video clips for the first and third album singles. ‘Przeminęła’ and ”Mr. Gray”

Hintf: Pedophile Priests, why did you choose this name?

I was looking for something strong and original and I came up with this name. It is hard to imagine but for some people it is still taboo topic. I am not a big fan of catholic church and religion in general and also I was sick and tired of meaningless and generic names of most metal bands this days so PP was born that way.

Hintf: Can consider yourself what type of music?

I consider our music as a death metal but with influences of many others subgenres of metal; thrash, heavy, black, whatever you like and whatever helps you express your self and your feelings in real true way.

Hintf: Many lineup changes?

Not many. Core of band is still the same from the beginning- me and Krystian and we had just two bassist passing by.

Hintf: Please tell us more about the music scene in your country…

Irish scene is maybe not the strongest in Europe but still there is couple of bands getting recognition on the continent. Ireland has small population what brings some problems and as scene is also small what brings many different kinds of problems and one of them is that we cannot find proper musicans. We already looking for bassist and maybe second guitarist for years and we fail and we do not have great expectacions we just want ordinary human being able to communicate on the same level and play the material.

Hintf: What bands did influence you the most?

Except major bands from world thrash/death scene which names I do not need mention here my biggest influence was polish scene. There is many bands which did not make it internationally and they unique; Armagedon, Betrayer, Christ Agony, Magnus, Dragon, Ghost, Pandemonium, Hazael, Tenebris…

Hintf: What are your plans for the future, can we except more concerts in Portugal?

There is no really life playing now as you know because of Covid situation. We never played in Portugal but I hope we make it one day. We share the scene in Dublin with portuguese grind bands Grunt and Holocausto Canibal.

Hintf: A final message to Hintf Webzine readers and to your fans…
Greetings and keep support the underground!

Album “Dark Transgression of the Soul” incorporating nearly two decades of solid music writing and musical experiences that we brough from our past and present projects.
I approached my metal music writing and guitar technique throughout the years in death metal bands such as Mortis Dei, Puki Mahlu or Lady Maggot and Łukasz in Esqarial, Sammath Naur, Gnida…
In this line up in spring 2015 Pedophile Priests have finished recording “Dark Transgression of the Soul”.

– Reasons to create the band, inspiration and influences.
I was always enthusiast of extreme music. Finally time has come to get involded in some metal band. It was second half of 90s. Reasons? Metal was love of my life and still is till present. I started my metal journey like I think most of metal heads – Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth and then more into Death Metal – Death, Pestilence, Morbid Angel, Messiah, Sarcofago, and many, many more. Special space in my heart have Polish metal scene – Kat, Vader, Armagedon, Dragon… and more.

– Style description and musical attitude.
Referring to our debut ““Dark Transgression of the Soul” I would describe it as
hybrid of technique, melody and aggression. Mixture of Death and Thrash metal.
All what the best in genres.
Currently our new, freshly written music explore also different areas.

Well, I was looking for the band name and like you probably know most of good names is already taken. And then I got in mind those two words – Pedophile Priests.
There is no much taboo subjects in the world this days but this one still seems to be.
We want to break this taboo saying – Hey look, there is a lot of pervert motherfuckers among individuals in cassock.
Also it suit metal band perfectly.

-Which one was or has been the most important moment in your career?
When I did grow up and accepted that I won’t be a rockstar and probably never get a chance to live from music.
