Slowly We Rot 9 cover

One should never judge a band's music before listening to it based solely on its provenience, but somehow when you hear Poland and Death Metal in the same sentence you immediately think of well-done music mostly because of Vader, Hate and the likes. This duo bearing a highly offensive band name was founded in 2014 and here we have already their debut full-length album made of 9 tracks that will definitely impress everyone especially since the band appears out of nowhere, and this confirms the "good Death Metal out of Poland rule" (even if they moved to Ireland in the meantime). This debut album displays a fantastic intensity mostly because of the highly energetic and complex drumming of Krystian Mistarz, a drummer I'm sure we'll hear more about in the future. The rest of the instruments, plus the vocals and I include here the compositions too, are the work of the other part of the band, Piotr Niemczewski, a very gifted musician and vocalist at the same time. The guitar part is progressive, technical and sophisticated, traditional and avantgarde at the same time, and supported by an incisive bass line and a subtle but menacing keyboard background here and there manages to create a devastating atmosphere a la Vader / Morbid Angel, yet without being a copycat. The vocals are hateful and disgusted perfectly topping up one of the best Death Metal releases I've heard lately. The band has recruited a third member in the meantime and started playing live gigs; if they are close to what we can hear on this recording I'm sure this band will reach impressive heights in this genre.

Slowly We Rot #9/2016

Men Pedophile Priests spiller teknisk death metal.

obalkaVeľmi zvláštny názov si dala do vienka táto írska skupina. Základy tvorby by som hľadal niekde v starom death metale európskeho strihu. Najbližšie by som to asi priradil k holandskej škole.

Neophyte (ATMOSFEAR #17)

The Polish duo with the somewhat controversial name were located in Ireland and Norway respectively when the recording of the dйbut started last year.
The music is a solid hybrid, where death metal is flanked by elements from grind core, thrash and symphonic black metal et al. Technical, melodic, progressive, aggressive, brutal and rapid ingredients are mixed in a near schizophrenic mixture.
Polish Piotr ДNiemiecФ Niemczewski, vocalist and guitarist residing in Dublin, formed Pedophile Priests last year. He was joined by drummer Lucass (Sammat Naur, Mork etc.), that at least at the time was living in Norway. After the recording of Dark Transgression Of The Soul, Lucass is however replaced by Krystian "Kruszon" Mistarz (ex-Thy Worshiper).
Through 9 songs the experienced newcomers present 40 minutes of extreme metal with a lyrical journey "through dark corners of the human mind pervading the universe".
The guys haven't been entirely lucky with the sound. Unless an unrefined, somewhat murky sonic fist of brutality has been a first priority, that is. How much is due to the recording and how much is due to later processing is not for me to say, but the dynamics are extremely low, with only DR4 on the scale. Piotr has taken care of recording of guitar, bass and vocals, along with mixing and mastering of the album.
With mixing of various musical expression there's always a chance for musical chairs syndrome, where they risk falling between different stools, or that the guests do not appreciating every chair.
I like the band's mixture, although I think it would have worked better with clearer sound. There's just too many good details drowning a bit in mud, debris and brick dust when the Poles runs amok.
The vocals vary a great deal. The bellowing, moaning form of half-growl isn't to my liking, but lots of proper growling, killer guitar work and striking frenetic drums is also found in the ruins.
Pedophile Priests at least manages to stand out a bit, especially from other Polish bands, as they bite of quite much in a hungry and ambitious, but also charmingly unpolished manner.
I do have a taste for their interesting mix ratio, but Dark Transgression Of The Soul can at times be a bit schizophrenic and inelegant. Parts of the material is very good, while other parts fall between the stools. When Pedophile Priests get to refining their brew properly, along with a professional producer, it can prove to be very exciting. This time I shall content to call it "Pretty Good".

Gorger (Gorger's Metal)

You see a name like Pedophile Priests and if you’re like me, your first instinct is to dismiss it on account of the name. It’s that kind of shlock, over-the-top band name that just hits you the wrong way. But on the merit of the cover art I decided to look further into their music. What I ended up with was an eccentric top-notch death metal record telling me to take my opinion of their name and shove it up my ass, as well as disembowel myself in a seppuku ritual for the shame of my error.
There is no comparing the sound of Pedophile Priests to, like, fucking anyone. Polish natives who migrated to Ireland for whatever reason decided to produce a brand of death metal full of cheesy lo-fi early ’90s black metal keyboards, ’80s production value aesthetic, technical trail-blazing riffage that borrows from every facet of the late ’80s to early ’90s evolution of death metal, all played with modern song structure conventions and severely over-the-top drumwork and one of the most demonically oppressive and original vocal attacks I’ve ever heard.
These guys beat to the sound of their own fucking drum all right, at the speed of sound and light and simultaneously in different dimensions. If there were ever a death metal album that could capture the insanity of the movie The Holy Mountain, I feel like this is it. Seriously.
So with that said, I have zero idea where to start here, but let’s try this: The opener “Presentiment of Evil” begins with what feels like a pretty classic black metal keyboard melody and opens up with the primary riff of the song. The keyboards and guitars unite, and the carnage begins once the vocals are introduced. Parts of this song feel almost ENTIRELY indecipherable in terms of what’s going on. The drums are gravity blasting, the riffs are utterly alien, and the bestial putrid alien vocals of guitarist Piotr Niemszewski are on full tilt. The song also contains a pretty good introduction to Piotr’s solo composition skills, with a refreshingly melodic play on the song’s opening theme serving as a relief from the insanity surrounding it.
This is all tame, though, compared to “Czarzne Xiestwo”. A bulldozer groove as its main riff, and some otherwise just really fucked-up atonality in the riffs, are punctuated by completely clashing melodic keyboard moments that war with the atonal guitars. It’s a literal cacophony of the sound of your sanity being ripped in two like fresh meat for a predatory beast of old. There’s also the relentless thrash-driven Agent Orange carpet bombing that is “Crush, Kill, Destroy”, which is just a fast-paced, whiplash-inducing good time.
These guys deserve recognition. If you want something unrelentingly intense, borderline avant-garde, and unforgivingly brutal, Dark Transgression of the Soul would serve you well as a nice break from modern death metal. I’m sorry I ever judged you by your name, Pedophile Priests, I know better now.

TheMadIsraeli (NO CLEAN SINGING)

Pedophile Priests are a band from Ireland that plays a very old school form of death metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Dark Transgression Of The Soul" which was released by Metal Scrap Records.
Horror movie soundtrack samples starts off the album before going into more of a fast and heavy musical direction along with some blast beats and morbid sounding melodies which also leads to some death metal growls making their presence known in the music and clean singing can also be heard briefly.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the solos and leads are very dark and melodic sounding and some of the riffs also bring in elements of thrash and the songs are also very heavily rooted in the early 90's style of death metal and the vocals also bring in angry shouts at times and some songs also bring in atmospheric sounds, along with synths and a touch of technical metal and they also bring in a short instrumental before making a return back to vocal tracks.
Pedophile Priests plays a style of death metal that is very heavy and has its roots in the 90's while also not being afraid to experiment and try new things which also makes the songs have more of an original style, the production sounds very professional while t he lyrics cover evil, darkness and violence themes.
In my opinion Pedophile Priests are a very great and original sounding death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Presentment Of Evil" "Crush, Kill, Destroy" and "The Kingdom Hospital".

OccultBlackMetal (The True Bringer Of Death Zine)

Dark Transgressions of the Soul is the debut album of a Polish/Irish Death Metal trio. I am guessing either mostly Polish, or that the vocalist is of Polish descent, since two of the nine tracks (”Czarne Xiestwo” and ”Poganski”) are in a language I can only assume is (you guessed it) Polish. But that is besides the point. Despite being the first release from Pedophile Priests, it is surprisingly professional (no doubt due to the aid of Metal Scrap Records), and has all of the pillars of one of the Death Metal bands of old: Slow, powerful and kept simple, yet very heavily distorted. Even the lyrics, with their promises of destruction (most prominently seen on the track ”Crush, Kill, Destroy”) brings back memories of experiences with Death Metal legends such as Entombed, Suffocation and the like. Overall, Dark Transgressions of the Soul is, at its core at least, an homage to nineties Death Metal, like the ones mentioned above. Sure, Pedophile Priests are still new on the block with a single chip under their belt. But they have made what I believe will be a lasting impression, and I fully expect to be hearing more from these three in the future. And it is also worth mentioning, that despite being labeled as an EP by both the band and their record label, it still contains (as mentioned above) an impressive nine tracks long set piece.

Brian (Metal Revolution)

Beyond the corrosive and shocking name of the band, this is a quite peculiar album mixing death metal, technical stuff and experimental sections.
Coming from Dublin, Ireland, these guys created a good debut album based in different sources of extreme metal music. All tracks have good doses of chaos and technical stuff which means many hours of composition behind rehearsal room. Obviously, these guys know what they are doing and offer holocaustic death metal with touches of melody and modernity, if you know what I mean. The whole thing is tied with a particular taste of progressive/experimental arrangements which gives a personality to the band. Even some keyboards are included here and there. Yes, they know about modern death metal, but it seems like they also want to step forward the frontier of the genre, and they are learning how to transmit different and distinctive states of mind inside the songs. This death metal is for open mind people who know about complexity, hyper-aggressive guitar riffs and experimental mode in extreme music. If you are purist of the genre, stay away.

Victor Varas (Zombie Ritual Zine)

„Crescent Guided Tributary“ to z kolei rozpędzający się do blastów ponury death/doom metal starej szkoły, „Nightcrawler (The Fall)“ ma w sobie coś z niepokojącej atmosrery starego Celtic Frost, „The Kingdom Hospital“ jest iście piekielnie mroczny i intensywny, a w „Scars At The Sky“ muzycy wpletli też delikatniejsze partie. Dość melodyjny jest też cover Sarcófago „Crush, Kill, Destroy“, a całość „Dark Transgression Of The Soul“ powinni poznać zarówno zwolennicy  ekstremalnego czadu, jak i bardziej zakręconych, mniej oczywistych dźwięków.

Wojciech Chamryk (Heavy Metal Pages)

The band called PEDOPHILE PRIESTS is created by the Poles residing in Dublin. As the name indicates, the members of the band do not like hypocrites in cassocks. The cover-art of CD is interesting. It show a huge vortex and something like a black hole absorbing surrounding space matter and the planet. But in the place of the black hole looks at us big eye of reptilian.
The beginning of the 1st song “Presentiment of Evil” is a mysterious noises, and then follows the storm of sounds, which dominates on the majority of the album. There are aggressive play of guitars with very fast drums and automatic bass drum in the background. The vocal is intensive but usually is sung by a tight throat and sometimes is clean. The third song “Crush, Kill, Destroy” is a cover SARCOFAGO. The 5th song “Sean Ross Abbey – Mother and Baby Home” is one of two exceptions to this death-metal music. The song is a short, melodic, with using the keys, and it gives a little break from the audio violence. The second exception is the last song. This is atmospheric pagan song with a simple Polish lyric with clear pronunciation.
PEDOPHILE PRIESTS stands out among the crowd of death-metal bands. The various components of sharp playing got originally arranged. The band has its own individual way of expression, its own path of creating musical aggression and madness.

8.5/10
Musashi (Metal Centre)

The band’s monicker is topical yet obviously brave. Even better is the promotion photography of the band in unholy collars. The first thing one notices upon pressing player on the CD player is the defecation-cum-vomitous vocals. The music charges and is blindngly fast of the grindcore speed variety. The vocals, however, deliberately do not keep up. There are many malcore interludes which shatter the purity and essence and then there are the alternately Pestillence-versus- Pan-thy-monium oh no synthesized or stringed unwelcome beeps, but when this band gets going things truly get going. The msuic is neither technical nor overly original, but more importanty serious bands should honestly stop discrediting themselves with all the non-metal externalities.
During the slower and technical instanes there is a shade of Morbid Angel in the sound, but given the thick rhythmm, hurling double or triple vocals the holy ones deviate from the forefathers. Crush kill Destroy has a surperlative guitar solo and hints at Immolation. The Ireland-based band is comprised of Polish emigres, which explains the knowledge of dirty priests and the Polish title and lyrics of the album’s closer.

Ali “The Metallian” (Metallian)

This gotta be a really blast based on the name. I kinda expect a borderline grindcore blast from this lot. So it is with great expectations that I’ll start this one. With the hope of being blown away. If not I’ll be mightily disappointed. The Poles are really good at this extreme death metal thingajing and while this isn’t the blast I had so high hopes for it is still death metal in the Decapitated/Behemoth school. Technical yet brutal these Polish dudes prove that they too want to be talked about. For those of you who like your death metal more on the technical side.
